Connecting the Cables
|
This section guides you through connecting any special internal and external cables for these cards:
3D accelerator card cables
If you installed a full motion video (DVD decoder or TV tuner) card, go to "Full motion video cables".
If you did not install a 3D accelerator card, go to"Installing the Software".
This section only applies to 3D accelerator cards that are designed to work with a standard 2D/3D video card. You can add one or two of these cards to your system.
If you are adding just one of these cards to your system, there are no internal cable connections to make. For instructions on making the external cable connections, go to "To connect the 3D accelerator card to your video card:".
If you are adding two 3D accelerator cards to your system, you must connect the two 3D accelerator cards with an internal cable. For instructions on making the internal cable connections, go to "To connect two 3D accelerator cards:".
To connect
the 3D accelerator card to your video card:
-
Replace
the computer case cover.
-
Connect the accelerator cable from your kit to the VGA input port on your 3D accelerator card (B).
-
Connect
the other end of the accelerator cable to the integrated video or
add-in video card (A)
port, which is blue.
-
Connect
the video cable from your monitor to the blue video (C).
-
Reconnect
the computer's external cables, then plug in the power cord.
-
Go to "Installing the Software", and follow the installation instructions for your operating system.
To connect
two 3D accelerator cards:
-
Locate
the Scan Line Interleave (SLI) connection cable that shipped with
your kit.
-
Connect the two 3D accelerator cards with the SLI connection cable. The cable can only be installed one way.
-
Replace the computer case cover.
Refer to the documentation that came with your computer for
instructions on replacing your computer case cover.
-
Connect the accelerator cable to the VGA input port on your first 3D accelerator card (A).
-
Connect
the other end of the accelerator cable to the blue integrated video
port or blue add-in video card (B)
port.
-
Connect the blue video cable from your monitor to the blue video port on the first 3D accelerator card (C).
No external cables are connected to the second 3D accelerator card
because its connections have already been made with the internal SLI
connection cable.
-
Reconnect
the computer's external cables, then plug in the power cord.
-
Go to "Installing the Software", and follow the installation instructions for your operating system.
Full motion video cables
DVD decoder or TV tuner card cables
This section guides you through connecting the internal cables from your DVD decoder full motion video card or your TV tuner card to your CD/DVD drive, sound card, and video graphics accelerator card. (You may only have one of these cards. If so, follow the instructions as directed.)
The following illustration identifies the components you will be working with.
-
CD/DVD drive
-
Video Graphics Accelerator card
-
DVD decoder card
-
Sound card
To connect
the cables:
-
If you have a CD/DVD drive, use an audio cable (1) to connect the CD/DVD drive to the jack on the DVD decoder card labeled Audio in.
If you do not have a CD/DVD drive, but you do have a TV tuner card,
go to Step 4.
-
Use a second audio cable (2) to connect the jack on the DVD decoder card labeled Audio out to the jack on the sound card labeled CD audio in or CD in.
If you have integrated sound, the sound connector is located on your
system board.
-
If the DVD decoder card you are replacing was connected to your graphics accelerator card using the VESA feature connector (see Add-in card connectors), use your feature connector cable (3) to connect the new DVD decoder card to your video graphics accelerator card.
-
If you have a TV tuner card, connect the audio cable (4) from the jack on the TV tuner card labeled Audio out to the jack on the sound card labeled TV tuner/Aux in.
If you have integrated sound, the sound connector is located on your
system board.
-
Replace
the computer case cover. Refer to the documentation that came with
your computer for instructions on replacing your computer case cover.
-
Reconnect
the computer's external cables, then plug in the power cord.
-
If you have a TV tuner, go to, "Connecting the infrared remote cable".
Connecting the infrared remote cable
If your TV tuner card has a remote control infrared receiver and you received an infrared remote control, you can use the supplied remote control with your TV tuner. If your TV tuner card does not have a remote control infrared receiver, go to the section, "Installing the Software".
To connect
the remote control infrared receiver:
-
Connect the remote control infrared receiver cable to the remote control infrared receiver jack on your TV tuner card.
-
Remove the remote control infrared receiver paper backing and adhere the remote control infrared receiver to the front of your monitor bezel or system case.
When using the remote control, make sure that the infrared receiver
remains in direct line-of-sight with the remote control.
-
Go to the section, "Installing the Software".
