Installing your video card software

Windows® XP, Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 2000, see Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 2000.

Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 2000

Installing the software using a stand-alone CD

To install the software from a stand-alone CD:

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. Click Cancel . Repeat this procedure until the all new hardware detection windows have been cancelled and Windows starts.

    3. Place the stand-alone CD into the CD/DVD drive. If the program runs automatically, complete a full installation by following the on-screen instructions. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If the program does not run automatically, go to the next step.
    1. In Windows XP, click Start, then click My Computer. The My Computer window opens.
      - OR -
      In Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows 98, double-click the My Computer icon. The My Computer window opens.
    1. Double-click the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive (typically D: for your CD/DVD drive). If the setup program runs automatically, complete a full installation by following the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If the My Computer window displays the files on the CD, go to the next step.
    1. Click Tools or View, then click Folder Options. The Folder Options window opens.

    2. Click the View tab, then click to clear the Hide file extensions for known file types check box, if necessary.

    3. Click OK. The driver file extensions appear. For example, setup now appears as setup.exe.

    4. Double-click the file that will begin the installation of your video card drivers. The file name is probably setup.exe.

    5. Complete a full installation of the software by following the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".

       

Installing the software using the red Drivers CD

To install the software from the red Drivers CD:

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. Click Search for the best driver for your device, then click Next. Complete the wizard by repeatedly clicking Next until the wizard tells you that it was unable to detect any devices and that it has installed an unknown device.

    3. Insert the red Drivers CD into your CD/DVD drive. The System Restoration Kit program starts. Go to Step 7.
      - OR -
      If the program does not start automatically, go to the next step.
    1. Click Start, then click Run. The Run dialog box opens.

    2. In the Open text box, type d:\runmenu.exe (where d: is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive).

    3. Click OK. The System Restoration Kit program starts.

    4. If the Welcome to the System Restoration Kit window opens, close it by clicking OK.

    5. Click the Reinstall Drivers and Applications tab.

    6. Scroll down to the Display Adapters section, click your video card driver, then click Install.

    7. Follow any additional on-screen instructions. Depending on the driver you are installing, you may only need to restart your computer to complete the installation. However, if a setup wizard opens when you restart your computer, follow the on-screen instructions.

       

Installing the software using the Gateway System Restoration Kit

To install the software from the Gateway System Restoration Kit :

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. Place Disc 1 of the Gateway System Restoration Kit into your CD/DVD drive.

    3. If the program runs automatically, click the Install Hardware tab, click the device drivers to install, then follow the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If the program does not run automatically, go to the next step.
    1. Click Start, then click Run. The Run dialog box opens.

    2. Type d:\autorun.exe (where d: is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive), then click OK.

    3. Install the hardware drivers for the new or replacement video card by clicking the Install Hardware tab, clicking the device drivers to install, then following the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If a message tells you that the Setup file could not be found, go to the next step.
    1. In Windows XP, click Start, then click Control Panel. If your Control Panel is in Category View, click Appearance and Themes.
      - OR -
      In Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows 98, click Start, Settings, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens.
    1. Click/Double-click the Display icon. The Display Properties dialog box opens.

    2. Click the Settings tab. The Settings dialog box opens.

    3. Click Advanced.

    4. Click the Adapter tab. The Adapter/Driver dialog box opens.

    5. Click Change.

    6. Click Next.

    7. Click Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now (Recommended), then click Next. A search window opens.

    8. Click to select the CD-ROM drive checkbox. Make sure that none of the other check boxes are selected, then click Next.

    9. Install the hardware drivers by following the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".

       

Windows NT 4.0

Installing the software using a stand-alone CD

To install the software from CD:

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. Place the stand-alone CD into the CD/DVD drive. If the program runs automatically, complete a full installation by following the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If the program does not run automatically, go to the next step.
    1. Click Start, then click Run. The Run dialog box opens.

    2. Type d:\autorun.exe (where d is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive), then click OK.

    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".

       

Installing the software using the red Drivers CD or Gateway System Restoration Kit

    Use the Windows NT 4.0 Driver Locator utility to find the existing device drivers you need to replace. The utility is located on the red Drivers CD or on Disc 1 of the System Restoration Kit.

    To perform the following procedure, your system must be configured with the CD/DVD drive set as the first boot device in the BIOS Setup utility. For more information about your BIOS Setup utility, refer to the documentation that came with your computer.

To locate the Windows NT drivers:

    1. Place the red Drivers CD or Disc 1 of the System Restoration Kit into your CD/DVD drive, then restart your computer. The Gateway Boot Menu opens.

    2. Select 2 Boot from CD-ROM. The Main Menu opens.

    3. Select Windows   NT 4.0 Driver Locator Utility , then press Enter. The Windows NT 4.0 Driver Locator utility opens and detects the hardware drivers.

    4. When prompted to do so, press any key to continue. The Windows NT 4.0 Drivers List screen appears. The list shows the devices in your computer with the names and locations of each driver.
    1. If you want to print the Windows NT 4.0 Drivers List (parallel port printers only), press P. Make sure that your printer is connected and turned on.
      - OR -
      If you do not want to print the Windows NT 4.0 Drivers List, write down the contents of the video card and the monitor's Name and Location fields.
    1. Press Esc. The Main Menu opens.

    2. Select Exit program, then press Enter. The message "Insert disk with batch file. Press any key to continue" opens.

    3. Press any key.

    4. Restart your computer.

    5. Go to the next task.

       

To install the drivers:

    1. Start your system.

    2. Click Start, Settings, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens.

    3. Double-click the Display icon. The Display Properties dialog box opens.

    4. Click the Settings tab. The Settings dialog box opens.

    5. Click Display Type. The Display Type dialog box opens.

    6. Click Change. The Change Display dialog box opens.

    7. Click Have Disk. The Install from Disk dialog box opens.

    8. Type the driver location information you gathered in the "To locate the Windows NT drivers:"."

    9. Click OK.

    10. Click to highlight the name of the video card you just installed, then click OK.

    11. Click Yes. Files are copied and a message tells you that the drivers have been successfully installed.

    12. Click OK. The Display Type dialog box opens.

    13. Click Close. The Display Properties dialog box opens.

    14. Click Close. A message asks you if you want to restart the computer.

    15. Click Yes. After Windows NT restarts, a message tells you that a new graphics device has been installed.

    16. Click OK. The Display Properties dialog box opens.

    17. Click OK to keep existing settings, or use the Display Properties dialog box controls to change your display settings. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".

       

Installing your full motion video card software

Installing the software using a stand-alone CD

To install the full motion video card software using a stand-alone diskette or CD:

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. If your full motion video card software is located on a diskette, insert the diskette into your diskette drive.
      - OR -
      If your full motion video card software is located on a CD, insert the CD into your CD/DVD drive.
    1. Follow the on-screen instructions.
      If the wizard detected your full motion video card software, installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If the wizard did not detect your full motion video card software and it installed an unknown device, then go to the next step.
    1. In Windows XP, click Start, then click My Computer. The My Computer window opens.
      - OR -
      In Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0, double-click the My Computer icon. The My Computer window opens.
    1. Double-click the drive letter of the drive for the full motion video card software media (typically A: for your diskette drive or D: for your CD/DVD drive).
      If a program runs automatically, follow the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
      - OR -
      If the My Computer window changes to the view of the drive letter that you double-clicked, then go to the next step.
    1. Begin the installation of your full motion video card software by double-clicking Setup.exe.

    2. Complete the installation of your full motion video card software by following the on-screen instructions. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".

       

Installing the software using the red Drivers CD

To install the full motion video card software from the red Drivers CD:

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. Click Search for the best driver for your device, then click Next. Complete the wizard by repeatedly clicking Next until the wizard tells you that it was unable to detect any devices and that it has installed an unknown device.

    3. Insert the red Drivers CD into your CD/DVD drive. The System Restoration Kit program starts. Go to Step 7.
      - OR -
      If the program does not start automatically, go to the next step.
    1. Click Start, then click Run. The Run dialog box opens.

    2. In the Open text box, type d:\runmenu.exe (where d: is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive).

    3. Click OK. The System Restoration Kit program starts.

    4. If the Welcome to the System Restoration Kit window opens, close it by clicking OK.

    5. Click the Reinstall Drivers and Applications tab.

    6. Scroll down to the Video section, click your video card driver, then click Install.

    7. Follow any additional on-screen instructions. Depending on the driver you are installing, you may only need to restart your computer to complete the installation. However, if a setup wizard opens when you restart your computer, follow the on-screen instructions.

       

Installing the software using the Gateway System Restoration Kit

To install the full motion video card software from the Gateway System Restoration Kit :

    1. Start your computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

    2. Complete the wizard by repeatedly clicking Next until the wizard tells you that it was unable to detect any devices and that it has installed an unknown device.

    3. Place Disc 1 of the System Restoration Kit into your CD/DVD drive. The System Restoration program starts. Go to Step 7.
      - OR -
      If the program does not start automatically, go to the next step.
    1. Click Start, then select Run. The Run dialog box opens.

    2. In the Open text box, type d:\runmenu.exe (where d is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive).

    3. Click OK. The System Restoration program starts.

    4. Click the Install Hardware tab to install the drivers.

    5. Click the device drivers or software to install.

    6. Click Install.

    7. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.
      Depending on the driver you are reinstalling, you may only need to restart your computer to complete the installation. However, if a setup wizard opens when you restart your computer, follow the on-screen instructions.
    1. Click the Install Software tab to install the software, then repeat Steps 8 - 10. Installation is complete. Go to "Using your Video Card".
