Build a Data Warehouse
The various building blocks for a data warehouse effort are source systems, operational data store, data warehouse, ETL process, data mart, reporting process and metadata. In this chapter we discuss the extract-transform-load (ETL) process, evaluation of ETL tools, standards and protocols, network connectivity, hardware platforms and performance tuning. An ETL process may occur between source systems and operational data store, or operational data store and data warehouse, or data warehouse and data marts.
