"Data Warehousing" is a process of creating a corporate information repository or a "Business Intelligence" environment. Data is "extracted, transformed and loaded (ETL)" (includes checks for data quality issues) from OLTP or external systems into data warehouse(s) or data mart(s), using an Operational Data Store (ODS) as a staging area. The data warehouse(s) or data mart(s) maintain historical data. A metadata repository maintains information about the data. This topic describes data warehousing in detail.
