Designing an AD Tree
For a relatively small network, deploying Active Directory is a straight forward process, but for a large enterprise the planning phase is crucial. By creating an AD tree design in advance you can reduce maintenance costs and make it easier to adapt the directory service infrastructure later. Before you begin to deploy domain controllers and create Active Directory objects, you should have a complete plan ready that dictates how the directory will conform to your organization and where each object should go.
