Controlling the BIOS
The BIOS (basic input/output system) is the low-level command center for all of your laptop's peripherals and internal system resources. Occasionally you may find it necessary to access the BIOS to change an IRQ (interrupt request number), a memory address, or even the boot sequence of the drives in your laptop.
