 | | You can customize Adobe® Illustrator® to work with your personal preferences. Adobe lets you make a key number of specifications that will be in place each time you use Illustrator. To adjust your preferences for Illustrator, you can open the Preferences menu by choosing Edit>Preferences and selecting from the drop-down menu or by using your keyboard shortcut CTRL+K. Once open, the Preferences menu allows you to make changes regarding general use. | | | |

 | | The Scale Strokes & Effects option box is on the General tab of the Preferences window. When checked, this box scales your stroke weight and effects. This is an important feature when illustrating, as you will often increase and decrease an object's size and may or may not wish the stroke to scale with your resizing. To adjust your preferences for Scale Strokes & Effects, select Edit>Preferences and check or uncheck the box. | | | |

 | | The Use Preview Bounds option box is on the General tab of the Preferences window. When checked, this box adds a preview bounding box to all of your items. This means that each time you move your mouse over an item or in the vicinity of an item, a preview or bounding box will appear. While this can be a good feature for those just getting to know Illustrator, it can be an annoying distraction for those who are more familiar with the program. To adjust your preferences for Preview Bounds, select Edit>Preferences. | | | |

 | | Units and undo options are located in the Units & Undo section of the Preferences window. Here you can set the unit of measure your documents will be created in. You can also specify the number of undo levels Illustrator supports. For units of measure, you can select from inches, picas, pixels, centimeters, and millimeters. Regarding the number of undo levels, the default is five. This can be changed at any time by selecting Edit>Preferences and then choosing the Units and Undo option from the drop-down menu. | |
