Step 1:  What is a Screen Capture?

Open a Report
A screen capture is a computer-generated picture of all or part of your monitor screen. Most programs on the market today supporting OLE (Object Linking & Embedding) can import and place screen captures. Paint Shop Pro however, has taken this to the next level giving you advanced control over your screen capture options.
  Step 2:  Setting Options

Open a Report
To set screen capture options for Paint Shop Pro select Capture>Setup and the capture settings window will open.
  Step 3:  Capture Settings Window

Open a Report
In the capture setting window you can specify the area to be captured (area, full screen, client area, window or object), how to capture the area and options like including cursors or creating multiple captures.
  Step 4:  Screen Captures

You can also make screen captures independant from Paint Shop Pro by using the OLE function in Windows. To create a screen capture of your entire window press the Print Screen button on your keyboard (usually located in the top right of your keyboard). You can also use the ALT+Print Screen function to capture a selected object or window.
  Step 5:  File Formats

Using Paint Shop Pro, you can save screen captures in any of the major formats, such as .GIF, .JPG, .PNG, and .BMP.
  Step 6:  Saving Image Format

Open a Report
For some file formats, such as .PNG images, you'll need to make a few decisions about your image when you're ready to save. For example, does your image require 24-bit color, or will it be a palette image? Go to Colors / Count Colors Used. To create a palette image, go to Colors / Decrease Color Depth / 256 Colors (8 bit). A dialog box will appear. Select a method of choosing the palette from the options and click OK. If you don't like the results, you can click undo and select other options.
  Step 7:  Save Your File

Other options you can change for a .PNG file include transparency and image information. After you've selected your preferences, you need to save your image. Click on File, Save As, give the image a name, and select Portable Network Graphics (*.png) in the Save as Type box. Click the Options button, and you'll see a dialog box giving you a choice between Interlaced and Non-Interlaced. Make your choice, and click OK.
