Work with the Task Pane
Tutorial Home >Software >Office >Microsoft MapPoint 2001 >Get to Know MapPoint >Work with the Task Pane | |

 | | By default, the Task Pane window at the left side of MapPoint displays the Legend and Overview, with the legend in the lower pane. The legend identifies the markers and colors on the map, grouping the information by category. The listed categories change depending on the map's zoom setting. Zooming in generally displays more categories, as shown here. | | | |

 | | To display the markers in a category, click the plus sign beside the category name. (Note: After you add pushpins and data to the map, the legend lists new categories for that information, as well.) | | | |

 | | After you review the various markers in a category, click the minus sign beside the category name to collapse the category (hide its contents). | | | |

 | | Whether the Task pane holds the Legend and Overview, the Route Planner, or the Find Nearby Places tools, you can display another tool at any time. To do so, click either the Legend and Overview, Find Nearby Places, or Route Planner button on the Standard toolbar. (Hint: Clicking the button that already looks "pressed" closes the Task pane. Click any of the buttons again to reopen the Task pane.) | | | |

 | | You can resize the Task pane to make it larger or smaller in proportion to the Map. To do so, point to the divider bar at the right side of the Task pane until the mouse pointer changes to a resizing pointer with a double vertical bar and left and right arrows. Then drag to move the divider to the desired location. (Note: Also drag the divider bar below the Overview Map to resize its area.) | |
