  Step 1:  Learn Computer Properties

Open a Report
Some of the most valuable information is hidden in the properties of the Computer Icon. To view the properties for your computer, click Computer in Device Manager, and then click Properties. You will notice two tabs in Computer Properties: View Resources and Reserve Resources.
Step 2:  Use View Resources Tab

Open a Report
The View Resources tab gives you a wealth of information on resources allocated to the various devices. You can view your computer's resources based on Interrupt Request (IRQ), input/output (I/O), Direct Memory Access (DMA), or Memory. Try clicking on each of these and browse through.
Step 3:  Use Reserve Resources Tab

Open a Report
The Reserve Resources tab lets you allocate or set resources so that Windows can't assign them to a Plug and Play device. You may reserve resources for Interrupt Request (IRQ), input/output (I/O), Direct Memory Access (DMA), or Memory. Some older devices or specialized devices may require a particular interrupt or DMA to function correctly. You can do that using this tab.
  Step 4:  Reserving Resources

Open a Report
Please note this is only an example. You should not attempt to do this on your PC. If you want to make sure Windows does not allocate IRQ channel 5 to a Plug and Play device, do it like this: click the Reserve Resources tab, click Direct Memory Access (DMA), click Add, and then enter the value to reserve (5), and for now, click Cancel.
