  Step 1:  Understand SCSI-Based Drives

Open a Report
Some Zip drives are SCSI based and since they use this interface they have issues specific to SCSI devices.
  Step 2:  Terminate Properly

Open a Report
If your Zip drive is connected to a SCSI controller, make sure that the controller and the drive are properly terminated. Check your instructions from IOMEGA for the correct way to do this.
  Step 3:  Verify Device IDs

Open a Report
Verify that no two devices on the same chain with the Zip drive have the same ID. Check your user manuals for each of your devices to be sure to get this right.
Step 4:  No More Than Seven Devices

Open a Report
Make sure that there are no more than seven (7) devices plus the controller connected to the chain that contains the Zip drive.
  Step 5:  Check Maximum Length

Open a Report
Make sure that the cable length does not exceed the maximum recommended length for your type of SCSI connection. You may view these recommendations in Series 33 of this section.
