New CPU Doesn't Fit

 | | Shutdown and turn off the PC. Disconnect the power. Remove the cover, retaining the screws where you can easily find them again. Get a flashlight to help you see the motherboard, if necessary. Ground yourself before you put your hands inside. |  |  | | 

 | | Check to be sure the CPU is properly inserted. If you had problems installing the older CPU in the newer motherboard, remove the CPU again and carefully but firmly reinsert it. Do not force the CPU into place, however. If it doesn't fit properly, there may be a reason, such as the new motherboard is meant for a different type of CPU. If this is the case, contact your motherboard manufacturer. |  |  | | 

 | | Check that all connections and cables are secure, and that nothing seems out of the ordinary. Be sure all boards are firmly seated. Be sure all RAM modules are firmly seated. |  |  | | 

 | | Replace the PC cover, restore the power connections, and turn the PC on. If it boots normally this time, you may be in the clear. If not, contact your motherboard manufacturer or consult your motherboard documentation. Have exact CPU type and speed information available when you do so. |  |
