  Step 1:  Select the Selection Tool

Open a Report
Hanging punctuation, called optical margin alignment in InDesign, makes the edges of text appear more even by "hanging" the punctuation and edges of letters outside the margins. The effect is often used in advertising or in pull quotes. Move the mouse over the Selection tool and single-click to select it (point at each tool to learn its name). If the Type tool is not selected, you can press V for the Selection tool.
  Step 2:  Select a Story

Open a Report
Hanging punctuation applies to a single text frame or all the text frames in a series of threaded frames. To specify hanging punctuation, use the Selection tool to click on a frame. You can also click the Type tool within a story.
  Step 3:  Open the Story Pane

Open a Report
Choose Type -> Story.
  Step 4:  Turn on Hanging Punctuation

Open a Report
Check Optical Margin Alignment. To specify the amount of overhang, type a value in the Font field. In general, this should be the same size as most of the text in the story.
