| Open the Encoding tab of the Preferences window. The encoding options will determine the quality and size of the MP3 files you create in RealJukebox. Highlight MP3 Audio to create MP3 files with RealJukebox. |

| If you are using the free version of RealJukebox, the three quality levels available for MP3 are 96, 64, and 56 kbps. The 96kbps setting is the highest quality, but this is usually considered less than CD-quality. |

| If you have purchased the Plus version of RealJukebox, there are several additional options for the Quality Level, including higher bitrates and a choice of constant bitrate (CBR) or variable bitrate (VBR). |

| Constant bitrate (CBR) MP3s take up a predictable amount of space on your hard drive equal to the bitrate times the duration of the track. You should select Constant Bitrate if you need to limit the amount of space the MP3s will take. |

| If you choose Constant Bitrate, a good bitrate setting for near-CD quality sound is 128 kbit/s. 96kbit/s is often chosen for MP3s that will be used with a portable player, since they will take up less space. |

| Variable bitrate can modify the amount of information used to represent the music according to what suits the music best. It usually provides better quality MP3s, but the files may take up more space and may not be able to be played in all MP3 playing software. |

| If you choose Variable Bitrate encoding, you can specify an estimated average bitrate value to help control the size and quality of the MP3s that are created. |
