  Step 1:  Streaming Bytes

Open a Report
Digital audio is a stream of bytes that contain amplitude (volume) data.
  Step 2:  Talking About CDs

When you're talking about samples, or a CD, you're talking about a series of bytes that represent a sequence of volume peaks.
  Step 3:  Standard CD Rate

Standard CD audio has a format that transmits 44,100 samples per second.
  Step 4:  CD Bit Depth

CD's have a bit depth of 16 bits. There is virtually no loss of sound quality in the transfer, which is why this format became so popular.
