| You can have a uniform header throughout your document or you can change headers, for example, when changing chapters. Click View/Header and Footer in the menu bar. The text in the document becomes dimmed and the Header window becomes visible. You can hide the text altogether by clicking the Show/Hide Document Text toggle button to hide the document text if you find it distracting. |

| Enter the first part of your text flush left. For example, you could enter the name of the book on the left. |

| Press TAB to move the cursor to the center of the header area. You could enter the name of your document here. If for some reason you are not satisfied with the default position of the cursor, you can adjust it by dragging the tab marker in the ruler. |

| Press TAB again to move the cursor to the far right. If for some reason the right marker is not at the right edge of the header box, adjust it as needed. For example, you could put your division here such as Sales. |

| Click the Switch Between Header and Footer button in the Header/Footer tool bar and the Footer area appears. You can add footer text in the same fashion as header text explained in earlier steps in this tutorial. You can toggle back and forth between the headers and footers by clicking this button. |

| You can set up a document with different odd and even headers. This makes the document appear as it would in a published book. Click the Page Setup button in the Header/Footer tool bar and the Page Layout dialog box opens. Click the Layout tab, then click the Different Odd and Even check box in the Header/Footer area. |
