  Step 1:  Understand the Structure

Open a Report
A 6-panel brochure is created over six columns on two pages. After printing the brochure, you fold it so that the third column of the second page becomes the front cover of the brochure. Panel 6 becomes the back cover and panels 2, 3, 4, and 5 become the inside panels. Before you start creating a brochure with Word, take out two pieces of paper, turn them sideways, draw three columns on each piece of paper, then number the panels. Now you're ready to determine what information goes on what panel.
Step 2:  Plan the Front Cover

Open a Report
The front cover will contain the title of your brochure and usually a picture. Here's how the front cover of my brochure will appear.
Step 3:  Plan the Inside Panels

Open a Report
The inside panels contain the "meat" of your informational brochure. Here I've listed the topics I'll cover on panels 2, 3, and 4. I plan to put the author and artist biographies on panel 5.
Step 4:  Plan the Back Cover

Open a Report
The back cover usually contains contact information. Here's how I plan to format the back cover for my brochure.
