Step 1:  Register at the Directories

Open a Report
You can be sure of being included on search engines, and make it happen relatively soon, by going to search engine sites and entering your address in their Add URL form. Even if you don't, they might find you. Directories are hand constructed. You only get included if you fill out the appropriate forms and if the editors feel your site has value. Go to the major directories and fill out their forms. It could take several months before your listing appears, if it ever does.
Step 2:  Use your URL Everywhere

Open a Report
If you want people to know you have a Web site, include your address (URL) in everything you write, both online and offline. Add it to your business card and stationary. Make it part of your return address on all correspondence. In your email program, modify your standard "signature" file to include the URL and a brief explanation of the purpose/focus of your site.
  Step 3:  Start Talking

Open a Report
Go to Deja.com to learn about newsgroups related to your interests and to the focus of your Web site. Do likewise at Liszt.com for email discussions. Start participating in those discussions, following the community rules and keeping your remarks on target, but including your signature file, with the pointer to your Web site, in every one of your postings.
  Step 4:  Swap Links

Use search engines to find other similar Web sites. If you can find addresses for the Webmasters of those sites, send email offering to link to their page from yours, and asking them to link to yours from theirs.
