  Step 1:  Offline Help

Open a Report
Why won't my new modem dial when I click Sign On? How can I connect to AOL when I'm away from home? How can I change my local access numbers? Can I get my modem to stop making those annoying sounds when I first sign on? The answers to these and many more questions are waiting for you in Offline Help. Since some of this information may occasionally be out-of-date, it's best to use Offline Help only when you can't get online. For the most current information, double-check with Online Help, if possible.
Step 2:  Getting into Offline Help

Open a Report
Start AOL for Windows, but don't sign on to AOL. Then choose Offline Help from the Help menu.
Step 3:  View the Help Topics Window

Open a Report
The America Online Help Topics window opens, listing available help topics. (Your window may look somewhat different from this one.) On the Contents tab, every help topic has a book icon. Double-clicking the icon expands the topic to show related subjects. (The long way around is to select a topic and click Open.)
Step 4:  Find More Help Topics

Open a Report
Double-click a topic. The topic listing ex-pands. Notice that the icon next to the topic you selected is now an open book icon.
Step 5:  Display a Help Screen

Open a Report
Some topics have a question mark icon to their left. These icons lead to help screens containing information about the listed subject. Double-click a subject that interests you. (You can also select the subject and click Display.)
  Step 6:  Display a Definition

Open a Report
A window describing your subject appears. Sometimes you'll come across a word or phrase with dotted underlining; click the underlined word to see a definition of that word or phrase.
Step 7:  Read and Close the Definition

Open a Report
A box containing the definition opens. After you've read the definition, click anywhere to close it. To return to the Help Topics window in step 2, click Help Topics.
