  Step 1:  Large Icons View

Open a Report
In the View menu, select the view you want the folder to have. In Large Icons view, each drive, folder, or file is shown as a large icon with a name or description underneath.
  Step 2:  Small Icons View

Open a Report
In Small Icons view, each drive, folder, or file is shown as a small icon with a name or description to its right. In this view, the items are arranged horizontally.
  Step 3:  List View

Open a Report
List view is just like Small Icons view, but the icons are arranged vertically rather than horizontally.
  Step 4:  Details View

Open a Report
Details view gives you more information, displaying not only item names, but also each item's size, type (folder or file type), and the date the item was last modified. You can change column widths in Details view by dragging the borders between the column headings.
  Step 5:  Sorting Icons

Open a Report
To sort icons, open the View menu and choose Arrange Icons. Then you can sort by name, type, size, or date last modified. If you want to straighten up the icons without changing their order, choose Line Up Icons from the View menu.
Step 6:  Sorting Files in Details View

Open a Report
To sort the items in Details view, click a column heading. Clicking Size sorts the list by file size. Clicking Name sorts it alphabetically by filename. (Clicking the column heading again reverses the sort order; for example, if the names were sorted from A to Z, clicking the Name column again would sort the names from Z to A.)
  Step 7:  Arranging Icons

Open a Report
If you want Windows to automatically preserve a particular arrangement of icons in Large Icons and Small Icons view, open the View menu, choose Arrange Icons, and select Auto Arrange. After Auto Arrange is turned on, any new items you add to the folder are put in the order you've specified. If you drag an icon out of position, it snaps back. If you delete an icon, the remaining ones immediately re-order. The advantage of leaving Auto Arrange off is that you can create your own clusters of icons within a folder window.
