  Step 1:  Start a Macro

Open a Report
A macro is a set of recorded instructions you use to automate a common Word task. Use macros to speed up repetitive tasks such as selecting menu commands, formatting text, and other tedious operations. Open the Tools menu, select Macro, and then select Record New Macro.
Step 2:  Enter a Macro Name

Open a Report
Click inside the Macro name text box and type in a one-word name for the macro.
Step 3:  Define a Shortcut Key

Open a Report
Click the Keyboard button to open a dialog box for defining a shortcut key combination to use to run the macro.
Step 4:  Enter a Shortcut Key

Open a Report
Enter a shortcut key in the Press new shortcut key text box. Try using the Alt or Ctrl keys along with other keyboard characters, such as Alt+I. You may have to try several combinations until you find a combination that's not currently assigned to another Word function. Click Assign to assign the shortcut key to your macro.
Step 5:  Close the Dialog Box

Open a Report
Click Close to exit the dialog box and start recording the macro.
  Step 6:  Record the Macro

Open a Report
The Macro toolbar appears onscreen in record mode. Carefully follow all the steps necessary to perform the task for which you're creating a macro; use the mouse or keyboard to open menus and dialog boxes and select commands. In this example, open the Font dialog box to select superscript formatting.
  Step 7:  Stop Recording

Open a Report
To stop recording the macro, complete the task and click the Stop button on the Macro toolbar. The next time you want to perform the task, type in the keyboard shortcut key you assigned.
