  Step 1:  Open the Save As Dialog Box

To save your Word file as another file type, first open the file to be saved. Then display the Save As dialog box; open the File menu and select Save As.
  Step 2:  Change the Filename or Location

If necessary, give the file another name or designate a specific folder or disk to save the file to (for example, to save the file to a disk, click the Save in drop-down arrow and select your floppy disk drive from the list).
  Step 3:  Save to Another File Format

To save the file as another file type, click the Save as type drop-down arrow and select a file type from the list. Use the scroll arrows to scroll through the list of file types. Click the one you want, and then click the Save button to complete the procedure.
  Step 4:  Open Another File Format

To open a file someone else gave you to read in Word, first open the Open dialog box; display the File menu and select Open or click the Open button on the Standard toolbar.
  Step 5:  Display the Files of Type List

Open a Report
Click the Files of type drop-down arrow and select the file type you want to open, such as Microsoft Excel Worksheet.
  Step 6:  Locate and Open the File

Open a Report
Now locate the folder or drive containing the file you want to open; select the file and click the Open button. Word opens the file onscreen.
