  Step 1:  Open People Connection

Open a Report
A chat room is a window where you can enter into live conversation with other AOL members. Click the People Connection icon on the AOL toolbar. The resulting window gives you several ways to start chatting or to search for a good chat room.
Step 2:  Find a Chat Room

Open a Report
Click the find a chat link to view a list of all the chat rooms available in AOL.
Step 3:  Select a Chat Category

Open a Report
Select a chat category from the list on the left, and then click view to see a list of the chat rooms in that category. Select the name of a chat room from the list on the right, and click the go chat button to enter the room.
  Step 4:  Add a Comment

Open a Report
As soon as you enter the chat room, you see the live comments of participants already in the room. To add a comment of your own, type your text in the box at the bottom of the chat area, and click Send (or simply press the Enter key).
  Step 5:  Read a Participant's Profile

Open a Report
Double-click the name of any participant in the room if you want to read that member's profile, and then click Get Profile in the resulting window.
  Step 6:  Set Your Preferences

Open a Report
Click Chat Preferences if you want to change the behavior of AOL Chat. In the resulting list, you can specify whether you want to be notified when participants come and go, along with several other options.
