| To open the Colors Palette, click on Window in the Menu bar to open the Window menu. Scroll down to Show Colors and click on it. This will display the Colors Palette. |

| The Stroke Color indicator appears on the top left of the Colors Palette. This indicates the current color of your strokes, and you can also use this indicator to change the stroke color. |

| The Fill Color indicator appears on the top left of the Colors Palette to the right of the Stroke Color Indicator. This indicates the current color of your fills, and you can also use this indicator to change the fill color. |

| The colors readily available to you appear in the colors list. In this list you will also find Registration, and Paper. We will explain those later. |

| The New Color Icon at the bottom of the Colors Palette is a quick and easy way to open the New Color Dialog box, which allows you to create or specify new colors and add them to the colors list. |

| The Delete Color Icon beside the New Color Icon at the bottom of the Colors Palette is an easy way to delete colors from the color list. |

| Beside the color names on the color list are a series of icons. These icons (explained in the next tutorial) tell you whether you are working with a CMYK, an RGB, or an HLS color, and if that color is a Process or Spot. |

| Registration color is not really a color. Every printing plate, or every color separation will print items colored with "registration". Printers often use registration for things like crop marks, but you can use it for document identification information. Items colored in Registration will still print even if they appear outside the "printable area" of a page. You can change the color that Registration will appear, but the purpose of Registration will remain the same. |
