| If you are not hearing any sound from your speakers, the first thing you should check is the power. Are the speakers plugged in? Check both the plug at the wall outlet or power strip and the connection of the cable to the speakers. |

| Next, check the cables running from the speaker into the jack at the back of the PC. Reseat the connections and make certain they are secure. |

| You should also check to make sure the speaker cable is plugged into the correct jack on the PC. There is often a speaker symbol next to the speaker jack, and sometimes the cable and jack are color coordinated. |

| If the speakers are plugged in and you still don't have power, be sure that they are turned on. Most speakers have a power switch of some kind, as well as a light indicating they are on. If you don't have power after reseating all the cables and ensuring the speakers are turned on, you may need to replace your speakers. |

| If you have power but still can't hear anything from your speakers, you should make sure the volume control is adjusted properly. If the speakers have a volume control, adjust this to an acceptable level, or until you can hear the sound. |

| If you have the type of speakers that allow you to plug earphones in, make sure that you don't have earphones plugged into your speakers. The sound will be coming from the earpieces instead of the speakers, which could cause you to think the speakers aren't working properly. |

| If earphones are not plugged into the earphone jack, plug some in and check to see if you can hear sound through the earphones. |

| If the problem does not seem to be the speakers themselves, it could be your Windows settings. Click on the horn (or other sound-related) icon in your Windows System Tray (bottom right corner of your desktop, near the time display). |

| Check the volume settings, ensuring that they are not set too low. Adjust the settings as necessary. Make certain nothing is set to Mute. If the Mute box is checked on any of the settings, click the box to uncheck it. |
