| Find your tape drive's manual or documentation (it also may be available online) to see if it specifies what a flashing LED may mean. Follow any instructions provided. |

| Check to see how your tape cartridge is inserted. If no tape cartridge is inserted, insert one. If the first one isn't seen, try another. |

| Shutdown the PC and turn it off, disconnect the power, and remove the cover. Remember to ground yourself before placing your hands inside the PC. If you have an external tape drive, there is no need to open the case. |

| Check the cables running to the drive to make certain they are securely seated. Reseat them, as necessary. |

| Check to make certain any jumpers available on the tape drive are properly set for your setup and per the documentation accompanying the tape drive. You may need to disconnect the cables and remove the screws and pull the tape drive out of its bay to check this, then replace, as necessary. |

| Replace the cover, reconnect the power, turn on the PC, and let Windows load. See if the flashing stops. If it does not, contact the tape drive manufacturer's technical support department. |
