Manage Add-ons

Internet Explorer Add-ons are installed software components that load with Internet Explorer. These components could be third-party ActiveX® controls that extend browser functionality, or provide special user interface elements in Internet Explorer. Historically, a number of these add-ons have been found to be responsible for Internet Explorer errors. As a result, a new Manage Add-ons interface is provided that shows all COM objects that have been previously or currently loaded within the IEXPLORE process space.

The Manage Add-ons interface also allows add-ons to be individually enabled or disabled; however, add-ons cannot be removed using this interface. Additionally, add-ons can be updated using this interface, provided that the component references a URL for the install location.

To open Manage Add-ons, use the following steps.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. In the Internet Explorer window, click the Tools pull down menu in the upper right, and then click Internet Options.
