General tab summary: Normal startup - Starts Windows in the usual manner. Use this mode to start Windows after you are done using the other two modes to troubleshoot the issue. Diagnostic startup - Starts Windows with basic services and drivers only. This mode can help rule out basic Windows files as the cause of the issue. Selective startup - Starts Windows with basic services, drivers, and the other services and startup programs that you select.
Note: When you clear the Load System Services check box, you disable important Microsoft services. You also permanently delete all restore points for the System Restore utility. Do not clear this check box if you want to retain your restore points for System Restore, or if you have to use a Microsoft service to test a problem. Load startup items - Clears all items selected on the Startup tab. Use original boot configuration - Disables the changes made on the Boot tab.
