Startup Repair
Startup Repair can be used to automatically diagnose and fix difficulties that prevent Windows from starting. These problems could be registry corruption or missing/corrupted/damaged system or driver files. It can also diagnose some hardware failures.
To use Startup Repair from the Windows Vista backup media, use the following steps:
- Place the Windows Vista Operating System DVD in the optical drive, then restart the computer.
- When prompted, press a key to start to the operating system DVD.
- On the Install Windows screen, click Next.
- On the Install Windows screen, select Repair your computer.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Next.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate operating system, and then click Next.
Note:If controller drivers are needed, click Load Drivers.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select Startup Repair.
- The Startup Repair attempts to locate and resolve issues with the computer.

- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Finish. This screen can vary, dependant on if a problem was found or not.
