Startup Repair

Startup Repair can be used to automatically diagnose and fix difficulties that prevent Windows from starting. These problems could be registry corruption or missing/corrupted/damaged system or driver files. It can also diagnose some hardware failures.

To use Startup Repair from the Windows Vista backup media, use the following steps:

  1. Place the Windows Vista Operating System DVD in the optical drive, then restart the computer.

  2. When prompted, press a key to start to the operating system DVD.

  3. On the Install Windows screen, click Next.

  4. On the Install Windows screen, select Repair your computer.

  5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Next.

  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate operating system, and then click Next.

    Note:If controller drivers are needed, click Load Drivers.

  7. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select Startup Repair.

  8. The Startup Repair attempts to locate and resolve issues with the computer.

  9. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Finish. This screen can vary, dependant on if a problem was found or not.
