How do I disable the Windows Firewall for troubleshooting purposes?

Disabling the Windows Firewall on a specific connection should only be done for troubleshooting purposes. It is recommended to have a firewall enabled to protect the computer.

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, click Security Center.

  3. In the Windows Security Center window, in the Manage Security Settings For area, click Windows Firewall.

  4. In the Windows Firewall window, click the Advanced tab, and then click to clear the connection that the firewall needs to be disabled on.

  5. Click OK.

  6. When finished troubleshooting, follow the steps above and then place a checkmark for the connection to re-enable the firewall.
