Disable Internet Explorer Crash Detection
In the event that the Add-on Crash Detection feature in Service Pack 2 was causing an issue, it can be disabled by one of the following methods.
Method 1: Use Group Policy to disable Crash Detection.
- From the Start menu, click Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type: Gpedit.msc. Click OK.
- In the Group Policy window, click the plus (+) signs next to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and then click Internet Explorer.
- In the Group Policy window, on the right hand pane in the Setting column, locate and double-click Turn off Crash Detection.
- In the Turn off Crash Detection Properties dialog box, click Enabled, and then click OK.
Method 2: Manually edit the registry to disable Crash Detection.
- From the Start menu, click Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type: Regedit. Click OK.
- In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions
- If the above registry location does not exist, create new registry keys with the names above. For example, if you navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft but there is no Internet Explorer key, click the Microsoft key, and then from the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key. Name the key Internet Explorer. Next, click the Internet Explorer key, and then from the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key. Name the key Restrictions.
- Once navigated to the Restrictions key, create a NoCrashDetection DWORD value. To do this, click the Restrictions key, and then from the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. Name the DWORD NoCrashDetection.
- Double-click the NoCrashDetection DWORD value.
- In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, change the Value data to 1, and then click OK.
