Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation The network installation download is 264 megabytes (MB) in size and is ideal for installing Service Pack 2 on multiple computers. To install the Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 using the network installation, follow these steps.
Note: You need to be logged on as an administrator or a member of the administrator's group in order to perform these tasks.
Note: You may need approximately 2GB of available hard disk space prior to installing Service Pack 2.
Note: Closing antivirus software allows the XP Service Pack 2 installation to run faster. It is recommended that you disconnect all Internet connections prior to closing the antivirus software. Re-enable the antivirus software prior to reconnecting the Internet connection.
- Download the 32-bit Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation from the Microsoft Web site (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe). It is listed as "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers".
Note: Do not download the "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Checked Build Network Installation Package", as it contains extra files used for debugging.
- From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe. Click OK.

- In the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard dialog box, click Next.

- In the License Agreement dialog box, click I Agree, and then click Next.

- In the Select Options dialog box, click Next.

- Setup inspects the current configuration.

- Setup checks for necessary disk space, backs up files, creates a restore point, and then installs necessary files.

- In the Completing the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard dialog box, click Finish. The computer restarts unless you click to select the Do not restart now check box.

- Once the computer restarts, select the appropriate option on the Help protect your PC screen.
