How do I play a DVD movie in Media Center?

After placing a DVD in the DVD drive, Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition checks to see if an application other than Media Center is marked as the default application for playing DVDs. If the default application is currently open, the DVD is played in that application.

However, if the default application is not open, Windows XP Media Center Edition checks to see if Media Center is open.

  • If Media Center is open and no audio or video file is playing in Media Center, the DVD starts playing in Media Center.
  • If Media Center is open and an audio or video file is currently playing, Media Center prompts you to check if you want to switch to the DVD.

If Media Center is marked as the default application, Windows XP Media Center Edition opens Media Center (if not already open) and starts playing the DVD in Media Center.

DVDs have their own menus and sub-menus. In most cases, you are able to use the Media Center remote control to navigate through these menus. However, in some cases, you may need to use the mouse or keyboard.
