Q: How do I disable Sleep/Hibernation in Windows Vista?

A: This document explains how to disable both the hybrid sleep mode and hibernate mode in Windows Vista™.

Disable hybrid sleep mode

  1. In the Start menu Start Search field, type Power Options.

  2. Under the Programs list, click Power Options.

  3. In the Power Options window, locate the selected power scheme (Balanced, Power saver, or High performance) and then click its Change plan settings link.

  4. In the Change settings for the plan window, click Change advanced power settings.

  5. In the Power Options dialog box list of settings, scroll to and then double-click Sleep, double-click Allow hybrid sleep, and then change its setting to Off.

  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

  7. Close the Change settings for the plan window.

Disable hibernate mode

  1. In the Start menu Start Search field, type CMD.

  2. Under the Programs list, right-click CMD, and then from the menu that opens, click Run as administrator.

  3. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.

  4. In the CMD.exe window at the C:\Windows\system32 prompt, type powercfg -h off, and then press the ENTER key.

  5. At the prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.

  6. Restart the computer.
