This can be checked in several places:
- System Properties
- Open Control Panel.
- In the Microsoft® Windows® XP default Start menu, click Control Panel.
- In the Windows XP default classic Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open the System Properties dialog box.
- If the computer is in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
- If the computer is in Classic View, double-click the System icon.

- Winver.exe - Running Winver.exe displays a dialog box where the service pack is listed.
- From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: Winver.exe, and then click OK.

- Registry - The service pack version can also be referenced in the registry value CSDVersion,
- From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: Regedit, and then click OK.
- In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.
- If Service Pack 1 has been installed, this should display Service Pack 1 in the data column for the "CSDVersion" listing.
