Frequently Asked Questions Show Part Numbers Q: What is WiMAX?A: WiMAX is a technology that provides high-speed broadband Internet over a wireless connection. WiMAX is similar to a wireless LAN in that it allows you to connect to the Internet without having to worry about connecting any wires to the computer. While wireless LAN technologies have a maximum length of up to 820 feet, WiMAX can reach distances of up to a few miles. Connecting to WiMAX does not require any additional hardware such as wireles routers, unlike a wireless LAN would. All of the hardware needed is built into the WiMAX card inside of your computer. Connecting to a WiMAX network does, however, require the computer be located within a WiMAX coverage area and an account setup with a WiMAX provider. More information about WiMAX can be located at the WiMAX homepage. |
