Q: The optical drive may stop working or is not detected after installing Windows 7A:
After installing Windows 7 the optical drive may stop working and may not even be detected in Device Manager. This issue is typically seen in Phase 3 of the Windows 7 installation when prompted for the
Gateway Upgrade Wizard disc.
To resolve this issue, download and install the latest Windows 7 SATA AHCI driver and Chipset driver (if available) and OpticalDrive PM Application (if available) for the computer from the
Gateway drivers website.
When downloading the drivers, verify the version of Windows 7 selected on the pull down menu matches the version of Windows 7 on the system.
After installing the driver the computer may need to be restarted and completely power off and back on before the optical drive will function again correctly.
