Installing Windows NT 4.0 on a Solo 5350

    This kit includes a CD containing APM 2.0 Power Management 2.74, Card Executive 2.74, and these printed instructions.

Installation instructions

    Complete each of the following tasks to install Windows NT 4.0 on a Gateway Solo 5350.

Turning Plug & Play off

    Before installing Windows NT 4.0, you must turn Plug & Play off.

To turn Plug & Play off:

    1. Start your notebook.

    2. Press F2 as soon as you see a startup screen. The BIOS Setup utility opens.

    3. Open the Advanced menu.

    4. Highlight Plug & Play O/S.

    5. If Plug & Play O/S is set to Yes, press + to change it to No.

    6. Exit the BIOS Setup utility by opening the Exit menu, then selecting Exit Saving Changes.

       

Installing Windows NT 4.0 hardware drivers

To install Windows NT 4.0 and the hardware drivers:

    1. Install Windows NT 4.0 (not included in this kit). Do not install the Windows NT Service Pack at this time.

    2. Install the network (Intel) driver from your red Drivers CD that came with your notebook.

    3. Install Windows NT Service Pack SP6a (not included in this kit).

    4. Install the APM 2.0 Power Management software version 2.74 from the CD included in this kit.

    5. Install the Intel display driver from your red Drivers CD that came with your notebook.

    6. Install the Audio (ESS) driver from your red Drivers CD that came with your notebook.

    7. Install Card Executive 2.74 to enable MiniPCI and PCMCIA cards from the CD included in this kit.

    Important

    During installation of Card Executive 2.74, you will not see a progress indicator on the LCD panel. Instead, you should watch the hard drive status indicator. Allow at least two minutes for Card Executive to install.

      1. After the hard drive status indicator shows there is no activity, restart the system to finalize the installation.

      2. Install the modem driver from your red Drivers CD that came with your notebook.

      Important

      Card Executive 2.74 must be installed prior to installing the modem driver.

        1. Install the mouse/touchpad driver from your red Drivers CD that came with your notebook.

        Important

        The Windows NT Service Pack must be installed prior to installing the mouse/touchpad driver.
