Installing and Using a PC Card V.90/56K Fax Modem
This package includes a PC Card modem for your Solo 1200 notebook computer, a diskette containing the driver for the PC Card, a modem cable, and these printed instructions.

These instructions are intended for use on a Solo 1200 using Windows Me as its operating system. If your notebook is using a different operating system, you will need to adjust the procedure accordingly.
|
Installing the PC Card modem
|
|
For more information on adding PC Cards, double-click the HelpSpot icon on your desktop.
|
To Install the modem:
-
With the notebook turned on and the Windows desktop visible, push the card firmly into the lower part of the PC Card slot, label-side up, until the card cannot be pushed further.

Insert one end of your modem cable into the modem jack on the PC Card.

If your modem cable is already connected to the built-in modem on the right side of your Solo 1200, remove it and plug it into the PC Card modem.
|

Insert
the other end of your modem cable into a telephone wall jack. The
modem will not work with digital or PBX telephone lines.

The first time you install the modem you will be prompted to install the modem drivers. The Add New Hardware Wizard opens.

Place
the diskette labeled Device Driver into your diskette drive.

Select
Automatic search
for a better driver, then click
Next.

Complete
the remaining screens in the wizard by clicking
Next.

Click Finish when done.
Changing America Online settings
If you use America Online as your Internet Service Provider, you will need to change the settings so America Online will use the correct modem.
To change America Online settings:

Double-click the America Online Included icon. America Online will detect the new modem and the Update Modem Settings wizard opens.

Click Next to update the modem settings.

Select
the
Cirrus Logic
(Generic)
modem, then click
Next.
-
You are asked if you want to update all telephone numbers to the new modem. Click Yes.
Changing Dial-Up Networking settings
If you do not use America Online as your Internet Service Provider, you will need to change the settings so dial-up networking will use the correct modem.
To change Dial-Up Networking settings:

Click
Start,
then select
Settings,
then
Dial-Up Networking.
The Dial-Up Networking window opens.

Double-click the dial-up networking connection you normally use. The Connect To dialog box opens.

Click Properties. The properties dialog box for your connection opens.

Select
PCMCIA 56K V.90
FAX MODEM CARD
from the
Connect using
list.

Click OK.
Removing the PC Card Modem
To remove the modem while the Solo 1200 is on:

Double-click
the PC Card icon in the taskbar. The Unplug or Eject Hardware
dialog box opens.

Select
PCMCIA 56K V90
FAX MODEM CARD, then click Stop.
The Stop a Hardware device dialog box opens.
-
Click OK.
-
Click OK.
-
Release
the eject button by pressing the PC Card eject button once.
-
Eject the PC Card by pressing the eject button again.
To remove the modem while the Solo 1200 is off:
-
Release
the eject button by pressing the PC Card eject button once.
-
Eject the PC Card by pressing the eject button again.
Troubleshooting
Your modem does not dial or does not connect
|
Make sure your PC Card modem is connected to the telephone line and the telephone line has a dial tone.
|
|
Make sure only the PC Card modem is connected to the telephone line. The built-in modem should not be connected to the telephone line while using the PC Card modem.
|
|
If you are using dial-up networking, make sure it is using the PC Card modem.
|
|
If you are using America Online, make sure it is using the PC Card modem.
|
|
Refer to your user's guide for additional modem troubleshooting information.
