Windows 2000 Restarts Continuously During Startup After Changing ACPI Setting in BIOS Setup Utility

Affected Products: Servers, Desktops
Affected Operating Systems: Windows® 2000, Windows® XP

ISSUE: If you enter the BIOS Setup Utility and set the ACPI Aware O/S option to No, and Microsoft® Windows® 2000 is already installed on the computer, it most likely causes the computer to restart when attempting to load the Windows 2000 kernal and continues to do so.

RESOLUTION: Set the ACPI Aware O/S option to Yes in the BIOS Setup Utility.
  1. In the BIOS Setup Utility, use the RIGHT ARROW key to move to the Power tab.

  2. On the Power tab, press the DOWN ARROW key to select ACPI Aware O/S, and then press the ENTER key.

  3. Change the ACPI Aware O/S option to Yes, and then press ENTER.

  4. Press the F10 key to save your changes and exit.
