Netware 5.x Installation Appears to Stall on Pentium 4-Based Computers

Affected Products: Servers
Affected Operating Systems: Novell® NetWare®

ISSUE: During the installation of Netware 5.x, the process appears to simply stop with no indication of a difficulty shortly after the graphical user interface (GUI) portion of the installation begins. The screen it stops on specifically is a white background with Netware wallpaper and a black mouse pointer. The pointer is still movable. However, there are no options for the user to click. Pressing CTRL+ESC allows you to choose the system console option. You may note that the last successfully loaded module on the console is SYMCJIT.NLM, followed by a number of java and memory errors.

RESOLUTION: Obtain a copy of the patch 4pent.exe from the Novell Web site. Details regarding the application and configuration of this patch can be found in Novell TID document 2958220. As of this writing, this is available on the Novell Web site here: http://support.novell.com/servlet/tidfinder/2958220.
