Windows NT Startup or Installation Fails with Stop Error 0x3F When Large Amount of Physical Memory is Installed

Affected Products: Servers, Desktops
Affected Operating Systems: Windows NT® 4.0

ISSUE: When attempting to load Windows NT on a computer that has more than 2 gigabytes (GB) of physical memory installed, you may receive a stop error message shortly after attempting to start to the hard disk for the first time. The following error message is normally displayed:
Stop error 0x3F No_More_System_Ptes
However, in some instances, the following error message may appear:
0x7B Inaccessible boot device

RESOLUTION: Remove enough memory from the computer to get it to less than or equal to 2 GB total. Finish loading Windows NT to the point where Service Pack 3 or later can be loaded. After the Service Pack is installed, you should be able to put the rest of the memory back into the computer. No further action is required.
