Eeuil12.dll is Linked to Missing Export File MFC42.DLL

ISSUE: You may receive an error message "Eeuil12.dll is linked to missing export file MFC42.DLL" while trying to access Microsoft® Encarta® 99. This can happen if the mfc42.dll file is damaged corrupt or missing. This will also occur if a program loaded replaces the mfc42.dll with an older version. The file mfc42.dll dated 09/26/1998, version 6.00.8267.0 (or later) is the correct file for the Microsoft Works Suite 99 bundle. Please note that the date maybe different and still work as long as the file version is 6.00.8267.0 or later. The correct file is backward compatible with programs requiring a previous version. Some programs known to cause this symptom are: Internet Explorer version 5.0, Outlook Express 5.0, Hewlett Packard (HP) printer drivers and related software on the HP driver CD, as well as numerous games and third party applications.

RESOLUTION: Use the following steps to rename the current mfc42.dll file and copy the newer version to the hard disk drive.

Note: Mfc42.dll cannot be renamed or removed from inside Windows.

  1. Place Works Suite 99 CD number one into the CD/DVD drive.

  2. From the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS Prompt.

  3. At the command prompt, type: CD\, and then press the ENTER key.

  4. At the command prompt, type: md msfile. Press ENTER.

  5. At the command prompt, type: cd msfile. Press ENTER.

  6. At the command prompt, type: copy D:\Mhp\System\Mfc42.dll (where D is the drive letter of the CD/DVD drive). Press ENTER.

  7. Files copy.

  8. At the command prompt, type: Exit. Press ENTER.

  9. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, and then select the option to Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode.

    Note: Mfc42.dll cannot be removed from inside Windows.

  10. At the command prompt, type: CD system. Press ENTER.

  11. At the C:\>Windows\System command prompt, type: Ren mfc42.dll mfc42.old. Press ENTER.

  12. At the command prompt, type: Copy C:\Msfile\Mfc42.dll. Press ENTER.

  13. At the command prompt, type: Exit. Press ENTER.

Note: The software that altered the file may cause the same symptom to appear if reinstalled.
