Particular Revisions of Netware 5.x and 6.x Install Very Slowly and Perform Unacceptably on 960/980 Series Server with 533 FSB

Affected Products: Servers
Affected Operating Systems: Novell® NetWare®

ISSUE: When installing Netware 5.x or 6.x 128-bit encrypted revisions on the 960 or 980 Series motherboard with a front side bus (FSB) speed of 533 megahertz (MHz), the server may appear to lock up or install very slowly and perform very sluggishly after installation.

RESOLUTION: Upgrade the system BIOS to revision 3D13 or greater.

Temporary workaround solutions include the following:

  • Use 56-bit revisions of Netware 5.x or 6.x.
  • Reduce the maximum transfer rate in the SCSI BIOS for all devices to 80 megabits per second (Mbps) instead of 320 Mbps.
