M460 Makes High Pitch Squealing Sound When Volume is Set to Mid Level or Higher

ISSUE: When adjusting the volume of the Gateway M460 notebook computer, you may hear high pitch feedback or squealing from the speakers.

RESOLUTION: To resolve this issue, disable the Mic Boost.

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.

  3. In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window, click the Volume tab. In the Device volume area, click Advanced.

  4. In the Play Control window, under Microphone, click Advanced.

  5. In the Advanced Controls for Microphone window, click to clear the Mic Boost check box, and then click Close.
