USB Devices Do Not Work in the Front USB Ports

ISSUE: USB devices do not work in the front USB ports. However, the devices do work in the rear USB ports.

RESOLUTION: Switch the cables back to the correct locations on the motherboard. Use the appropriate steps below to verify and correct the front IEEE-1394 and USB cable connections.

E-4300 (6-bay case)

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Remove the left side case panel.

  3. Inside the case, locate the IEEE-1394 and USB cables connections at the front panel.

    Locate the IEEE-1394 and USB cables connections.

  4. Follow the cables from the front panel to the motherboard, and then verify they are connected correctly, as shown in the following graphic.

    Verify the cables are connected correctly.

  5. If the cables are not connected correctly, move them to the correct locations on the motherboard.

    Note: On the motherboard, the IEEE-1394 connectors are blue, and the USB connectors are black.

    The IEEE-1394 connectors are blue.

    The USB connectors are black.

  6. After the connections are correct, replace the left side panel, connect the power cord, and then turn on the computer.

E-6300

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Remove the right side case panel.

  3. Inside the case, locate the IEEE-1394 and USB cables connections at the front panel.

    Locate the IEEE-1394 and USB cables connections.

  4. Follow the cables from the front panel to the motherboard, and then verify they are connected correctly, as shown in the following graphics.

    IEEE-1394:
    IEEE-1394 connected correctly.

    USB:
    USB connected correctly.

    Note: The the IEEE-1394 cables have blue bands near their connectors and the motherboard's IEEE-1394 connectors are blue. The USB cable has a black band near the connector and the motherboard's USB connector is black.

    IEEE-1394:
    The the IEEE-1394 cables have blue bands near their connectors and the motherboard's IEEE-1394 connectors are blue.

    USB:
    The USB cable has a black band near the connector and the motherboard's USB connector is black.

  5. If the cables are not connected correctly, move them to the correct locations on the motherboard.

  6. After the connections are correct, replace the right side panel, connect the power cord, and then turn on the computer.
