oobeflagnetscape0, PrismXL, rss_upd, and ShowWnd Entries on the Computer

- oobeflagnetscape0 is in Add or Remove Programs and may be listed as being 4 GB in size.
- PrismXL is listed as a running service.
- rss_upd is in Add or Remove Programs and may be listed as being 4 GB in size.
- ShowWnd listed as a startup item.
RESOLUTION: The Oobeflagnetscape0, PrismXL, rss_upd, and ShowWnd entries that may have shipped on a Gateway® computer are not Spyware or virus programs and do not harm the computer. There is a possibility that a Spyware or virus program on the Internet shares the same name, however they are not shipped on a Gateway computer and Gateway has no affiliation with such programs. The entries that are from Gateway are harmless and can easily be removed. Each entry has a different removal procedure. Scroll through the following list for removal steps for the corresponding entry.
oobeflagnetscape0
Oobeflagnetscape0 is a part of the recovery software and is installed with a *.msi (Microsoft installer) file during the factory installation and a Full System Restore from the \i386\Apps\App06699 folder of the recovery partition. Anytime a *.msi file is used, an entry is added in Add or Remove Programs. The size is reported as 4 GB in size in Add or Remove Programs, however it is not actually 4 GB in size. This size is reported since it is the size of the recovery partition in which the program was installed from. Oobeflagnetscape0 can be removed through Add or Remove Programs by using the steps below.
- Open Control Panel.
- If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs window, click oobeflagnetscape0, and then click Remove.
- In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Yes.
- Oobeflagnetscape0 is removed. No further removal steps are necessary.
PrismXL
PrismXL is a service used at the factory to install applications. This service is also used when installing a program using a Prism installation. You can stop PrismXL by disabling the PrismXL service at outlined in the steps below.
- Open Control Panel.
- If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.
- If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Administrative Tools.
- If you are in Classic View, double-click Administrative Tools.
- In the Administrative Tools dialog box, click Computer Management.
- In the Computer Management window, click the plus sign (+) next to Services and Applications, and then click Services.
- In the Computer Management window, double-click PrismXL.
- In the PrismXL Properties dialog box, change the Startup type to Disabled, click Stop to stop the service, and then click OK.
- In the Computer Management window, from the File menu, click Exit.
- In the Administrative Tools dialog box, from the File menu, click Close.
rss_upd

ShowWnd
Showwnd is included with the Chicony keyboard software and is used by the software to stop the keyboard driver's taskbar entry from reappearing. It is not necessary to remove the keyboard software, however if you wish it can be removed through Add or Remove Programs.
- Open Control Panel.
- If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Multimedia Keyboard Driver, and then click Change/Remove.
- In the Confirm Uninstall dialog box, click OK.
- In the Maintenance Complete dialog box, click Finish.
