Gateway M460 and M360 CD-ROM Drive Operates at 10X Instead of 24X
Affected Products: Notebook Computers Affected Operating Systems: Windows® XPISSUE: On the Gateway M460 and M360 notebook computers, the CD-ROM drive operates at a 10X speed instead of 24X. RESOLUTION: Use the following steps to change the CD-ROM drive from PIO to DMA mode in Device Manager.
- Open Control Panel.
- If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open System.
- If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon.
- If you are in Classic View, double-click the System icon.
- In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
- On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
- Click Secondary IDE Channel.
- From the Action menu, click Properties.
- In the Secondary IDE Channel Properties dialog box, click the Advanced Settings tab.
- On the Advanced Settings tab, change the Transfer Mode From PIO Only to DMA if available.
- Click OK, and then close all windows.
