One or More Logical Drives in an 840 SATA RAID Enclosure are Not Recognized in NetWare 6.5 on a 955 or 975 Server

Affected Products: Servers
Affected Operating Systems: Novell® NetWare®

ISSUE: When an 840 SATA RAID Enclosure is attached to a 955 or 975 server running NetWare 6.5, one or more of the logical drives may not be recognized in NetWare. This is despite the logical drives being recognized in the SCSI BIOS. This issue occurs when the 840 is attached to the onboard Adaptec SCSI controller.

RESOLUTION: Perform the applicable resolution below.
  1. If the entire capacity of the RAID array on the 840 is 2.1TB or less, configure all the hard drives in the 840 into a single logical drive.

  2. Connect the 840 to a different SCSI controller, such as an LSI 21320R SCSI controller.

Note: This information is provided as a courtesy. Gateway® does not provide any support for NetWare on either the 840 SATA RAID Controller or the 955 and 975 servers.
