Unable to Install NetWare 6.x with LSI 21320-R SCSI Controller in Gateway 960 or 980 Servers

ISSUE: When installing NetWare 6.x to a hard drive attached to a LSI 21320-R SCSI controller in a Gateway 960 or 980 Server, the installation fails when the SCSI controller is installed in PCI slots 2 or 3.

Slot 2

"Error report: No information about Device X could be obtained. (NWConfig 5-5). Program Execution may not continue normally. Press ESCAPE to continue." where X is the device ID for the SCSI controller.

Pressing ESCAPE produces the following message.

“No one device was found with at least 750MB free which is the minimum required for the SYS volume. Installation will be forced to end (NWConfig-5-594).”

Slot 3

“(LSIMPTNW-SCSI/Fibre)-ERR_ADAPTER_UNUSABLE !ERROR!: This adapter cannot be initialized!”

RESOLUTION: Download the latest BIOS update from the Gateway Web site.
